Kai Otton Is Still Gripping Stuff

A minute and a half of Ottz with his feet firmly planted.

It’s no secret that Kai Otton was a late bloomer, he’s actually quite upfront about it!

Couple his heart-on-sleeve attitude with his ability to stuff frightening tubes and you’ve got a convincing argument to back the goofy-footer.

When you think about it, staying on top of your board no matter what is a smart way to get comp results. Look at Kai’s history, he hopped on tour and managed to hold on for a decade through consistent surfing and staying upright. There’s no throwaways, no wasted scores, just reliable performance.

Anyway, here’s a bite-sized clip from his recent travels around Australia’s east, hunting heavy waves and the odd end bowl opportunity. This one’s presented by grip makers, Gorrilla, who deserve props for keeping the man stuck to his board over the years.

Oh and in case you missed it, here’s something that might give a little context into the Ottz story, with Mick Fanning, Taj Burrow, Joel Parkinson and the man himself.
