Josie Prendergast, The Pass, And Her New Fin

Any excuse to watch the divine Ms. Prendergast dance upon a log.

Our relationship with logging is a peculiar one. They infuriate when monopolising a lineup, but our beliefs rapidly shift when we’re atop one ourselves on an outstretched pointbreak.

Another instance of enamour with lengthier craft is witnessing someone like Josie Prendergast dazzling onboard a bloated vessel. It’s far removed from our performance based infatuations, but it’s hard not to appreciate the art that is longboarding when it’s done as gracefully as seen here.

While we need no real reason to share a clip of Josie, this clip comes with one.

Alkali’s new signature Josie fin.

The fin sculptures brought four samples forward from their bank for Josie to try, and as effortless as her surfing, she picked up the first one and stuck with it.

It’s a traditional dolphin fin design. And from the original sample, Josie made a few tweaks to the foil, outline, and of course, colour. From this, the Josie Fin was born.

The above clip is cut from a two day test at The Pass in Byron. A wave best suited to longer craft for the majority of the year, and a spot which accentuates the faultless step of Ms. Prendergast.

In Alkali’s words:

“Modified from an old Mick Dooley template, the Josie Fin is a reliable and versatile fin for most longboards. A fairly upright base with an even rake allows smooth turns and noserides. We shaved some area from the top half of the template, and foiled out the tip to loosen turns a little. Ideal for smaller and lighter surfers, and anyone looking for a dependable fin without too many surprises.”

SPECS: Depth (size) – 10″ Base – 7″

Watch above, and if you’re so inclined, step over to Alkali’s site here to assess Josie’s fin and their entire range – and remember they don’t just cater for single fins.
