And here’s a rarity in the surf photography world: a wild-angle water shot. Twenty, even 10 years ago, they were the staple of the print mag. Now it’s all about the foreground, about squeezing in something extra to give the photo an added dimension. But, still, is there anything that puts you there quite like fish-eye water? “It’s the perfect photo to showcase how Yadin surfs, explosive, powerful,” says the photographer Tom Carey. “It’s awesome to shoot fish-eye because it looks punk, it looks bad-ass. You have to miss a lot of good stuff to shoot fish-eye and you hope that the guys believe in you to get the couple of epic shots while you’re missing other big moves.” This photo came from a trip for the Coffin brothers’ new video project, so far untitled. The rest of the images will drench the pages of Stab‘s next issue, and the video project will live digitally on Stab.
