Imagine, for a moment, that you’re a surf photographer. How many photos d’ya reckon you’d shoot? Per session? Per week? Per month? Probably quite a few. You’d sure need a super-tight filing system. Watertight. That in mind, how easy d’ya reckon it’d be to let a coupla gems slip by your keen eye?
The image you see above is one such gem. Photog Jack Dekort was sorting through some old files yesterday (“old” can mean a coupla months in photography – anything over a year is prehistoric), when he came across this lost piece of gold.
On this day, six months ago in March, Jack punched down to D’Bah from the Sunshine Coast at 3 a.m., banking on the conditions projected by the charts making good on their promise. As you can see, the forecasts stayed true. This is Shaun Gossman, who according to Jack is always a standout at D’Bah when it’s on, and this particular day he sure nabbed his fair share of sweetness. – Elliot Struck
