Kai Neville’s last film, Modern Collective, modified the sphere of professional surfing and raised the sport’s progressive bar. So far, Kai’s next film, Lost Atlas, looks set do the very same again.
Recently, filmer Beren Hall and photog John ‘Sponnas’ Respondek (who fired off this shot), accompanied a crew down to the south coast of Australia to gather footage for the new project. Three Americans, Conner Coffin, Evan Geisleman and Dillon Perillo, lodged with Australian Owen Wright at a place his parents have in Culburra.
Though all the crew were flaring hard, it was Owen (pictured here) who most impressed Sponnas:
“Everyone was ripping, for sure, but I think Owen was a bit of a stand-out. I knew he was good and stuff, but I’ve never shot with him before and he’s fucking bullshit. He’s so underrated I reckon. On the WT he’s rated number seven and everyone knows he’s a good comp surfer, but he’s soooo good at freesurfing. He makes everything! And big stuff, like big airs.”
Watch out for more on Lost Atlas, coming real soon.
