What a grand finner! Nat Young, pictured here, landed in WA yesterday for the Telstra Drug Aware pro, Margaret River. Today, the women’s rounds are being run, and though the swell’s pretty grim at present, thursday’s looking like it’ll be large. If the swell does get as big as it’s supposed to, Nat’ll have to borrow a step-up board, as he’s only got what he describes as a “semi-step-up.”
Though most surfers have been wearing trunks, Nat (as you can see here) has been rocking a suit. “I’m used to wetsuits,” says the the kid from Santa Cruz, California. “You see all the Hawaiian’s trunking it, but I don’t mind suits.”
This is Nat’s third time in West Oz, and this time around he’s staying with Cory Lopez, Roy Powers, Eric Geiselman and Shaun Cansdell. Though the crew’ve just been hanging out watching movies, Nat says the house is “the hang-out place, everyone’s been dropping in.”
Nat’ll surf in the fifth heat of the first round, as soon as competition starts.
