Mitch Crews has an energetic approach to surfing. Every time he strokes into a wave, the kid’s going for it. Mitch’s surfing is similar to his personality – it’s rare to see him lost for words and his comments are usually a bounty of honest witticisms.

This photo, taken during the expression session at the Boost SurfSho, Bondi Beach on the weekend, is a good example of why Mitch won the trials of the Quiksilver Pro, Gold Coast and qualified for the main event; grab gripped tightly, weight centred over board, looking straight at landing – even though this ain’t the hugest punt, it’s as big as you’d likely see in waves this small, and the commitment is unfailing.

Alex Johnstone, our new 14-year-old photog pal (who’s turning 15 in a month) shot this image, as well as the last two days’ Full Frames. Kid appreciates good framing, picturesque backdrops and hi-fi flare. As do we.

Oh, and today’s a special day – we got another Full Frame comin’ at you in the pm, so stay tuned.
