Matt Wilkinson, the electric blue of round one, Cloudbreak
As you’ve totally seen, round one of the Volcom Fiji Pro is live and humming. As of writing, we’re four heats down. The waves are kinda awesome and there’s been some powerful heat totals (wildcard Mitch Coleborn just won with 19.33 points). Now, in heat number three, Joel Parkinson was to take on Matt Wilkinson (pictured) and Heitor Alves. Since the VQS ran four heats, Parko didn’t realise the event was gonna run, so he went fishing. And missed the heat. But regardless of Parko being obvious in his absence, the heat was all about the goofys. Heitor clocked a 9.80 and an 8.83, and Wilko clocked an 8 and 7.33. Matty also enjoyed a rather solid lipping to the head after turning a little short under a curtain. The moment pictured here is a happier time for Wilko. You shouldn’t really be here reading this, because you should be watching the event live. But in case you ain’t, get over here.
