This wave, featuring Matt Wilkinson, was easily the best wave of the day in Portugal yesterday during the Rip Curl Pro. It was the kinda wave that clocked a near-perfect score (9.77) and had the whole competitor’s are on their feet, screaming. “From the competitors area, you can see the sets stacking from far off and the noise gets louder and louder when a set approaches,” says photographer-on-the-spot Ryan Miller. “Wilko combo’d Mick and the wildcard Francisco Alves in this heat. The kid Francisco was gifted an absolute 10 but instead of focusing on getting deeper he focused on standing tall for his social media photo. Wilko focused on getting deep and it paid off.”
