Kelly Slater, Avalon milkshake, NSW
After a stint down in Tasmania surfing Shipsterns over the weekend, Kelly Slater flew back into Sydney. He has what y’might call a connection with Avalon, on Sydney’s Northern Beaches, and a short time after landing he paddled out for a midday session. By the standards of the world’s best surfer, the session was relaxed and Kelly was cruising (but that didn’t stop a small crowd forming in the top carpark to watch). He was on every four-foot set wave, and pulling in. There was a pack of 30-plus in the water when he paddled out but it soon thinned out, since everyone wanted to watch from land. Out there with him were Tom Carroll and Barton Lynch, and when they came in, the trio cruised around the carpark posing for photos with thrilled groms. Ain’t it all peachy?
