Yesterday on the north shore, the ocean was kinda calm. But things were not so on land. Surfers on the Nike team were called to a dinner and informed that as of January 1, 2013, they’d become part of a new, super-powered Hurley team. The swoosh would remain on their boards, but further down, on the rail or stringer, around where the chest lies – the spot reserved only for a footwear sponsor.
Julian Wilson, pictured here, was there to receive the news. Luckily he’s staying near what can be one of the most playful, stress-relieving stretches of sand in the world. “It was flat on the North Shore today,” says Ryan Miller of yesterday’s Hawaii conditions. “But, flat is such a relative term. It was just about as fun as your local beach break ever gets. Insanities, the little sandbar between Off The Wall and Rockpiles, had some head high dumpy waves just a few meters off the beach and all with a sand bottom. Such a treat to get into some waves that don’t make your asshole tighten. Here’s Julian in the kiddie pool.”
