Jordan Smith, Jeffreys Bay, South Africa
Wanna know how far it is to travel from Cape Town to Jeffrey’s Bay, in South Africa? If you’re driving, the distance is 700km which, by South Africa speed laws, equates to around seven hours. Despite the distance, when Jordy Smith spotted a swell headed for J-Bay, he knew it’d be worth the drive. Jordy’s fond of the place, and with good reason – he’s won the Billabong Pro, Jeffreys Bay twice consecutively there in the last two years. Yesterday, Jordy, along with photog Craig Kolesky (who shot this) and some buddies, arrived at J-Bay at 12am. They rose and surfed from 7am til 1pm, which is when Jordy blasted this finner, then drove the 700km straight back to Cape Town. You can call that a snatch-and-grab mission.
