Jack Robinson, truck-driving in WA
Despite having walked the Earth for just 14 years, lil’ Jack Robinson surfs this West-Australian truckzone like it’s a playful beachie (although, you won’t find its location here). “He dominates out there,” says photog Russ Ord (who shot this). “Even when there’s a bunch of other pros out there, he’s still running the show.” This particular session was, for Jack, a bit of a workout at times. “He fell from the roof on a couple,” says Russ. “But he wasn’t pulling back. He was taking off on anything.” So, how about the kid’s demeanour during what’d be a serious sesh for most kids his age? “Jack’s never serious,” Russ laughs. “He’s always in a good mood, always chirpy. Even after his worst wipeouts that day, he’d come up just laughing and say little things like,’Shoulda made that!’. On this wave he rushed past me, then paddled back out grinning from ear to ear.” So, with all that spray flying around, all that adrenaline, how’d Jack feel about the wave? “That was one of the best waves I’ve had at my local break,” he says. “I felt blindfolded for a bit but I was pretty stoked to make it.”
