Ah, the parallels of life. Right now, Mick Fanning and Joel Parkinson, the last two year’s world champs, are preparing for the first world tour stop of the year, an event they were both in the finals of in 2013 and one that takes place in their backyard.
Dean Morrison, the third of the three Cooly Kids, is also in town. Dingo’s recent history is fraught with misfortune. He lost his spot on tour in 2011, his marriage broke down, he was brutally bashed outside a Cooly pub, his dog died, and he lost his main sponsor. “Everyone goes through dramas in their lives but it’s harder when you’re in the public spotlight,” Deano told the Gold Coast Bulletin.
But Dingo is back. He’s looking real street-legal, thanks to training with Parko and Wes Berg. And, even better: He’s in the trials of the Quiksilver Pro, which starts in two days. Perhaps this frontside jam at Duranbah, bathed in golden light, is symbolic of Deano’s resurrection. Perhaps not. All Stab knows is, we can’t wait to see the best roundhouse in the biz wrapping down Snapper in a jersey.
