Cory Lopez, Rocky Point, Hawaii

Although the Vans Triple Crown hasn’t kicked off yet, the swell in Hawaii hasn’t completely disappeared. There was enough around yesterday for Cory Lopez to flash his fins at Rocky Point, and certainly enough to dampen photog Ryan Miller’s plans. “I was hoping to put in a few more hours sucking down Mai-Tais at Turtle Bay than shooting photos today,” he said. “That just wasn’t the case as the waves kept coming.” Luckily, he managed to fire this image off in time and make it to the bar before sunset. And the bar is a different game in Hawaii than what it was a decade ago. “I remember 10 years ago when you’d see a female on the North Shore, you’d be quick to look away as it was certainly someone’s wife or girlfriend and you definitely didn’t wanna get caught staring,” says Ryan. “Over the years, the women of this world have taken notice and have slowly upped their numbers each year. These girls are savvy for sure. I am pretty sure they are all hunting husbands. Who can blame them? Tan, fit, blonde surfers raking in six figure salaries are everywhere. The girl in this photo of Cory? A hunter masquerading as a boogie boarder, scouting the lineup at Rocky Point for a mate.”
