Coco Ho, Backdoor, Hawaii

“Such an ambassador of aloha this girl is,” says Ryan Miller of Coco Ho. “Even if there’s a few people that get bummed on the crowds coming here, there are still a ton of people like Coco that take great pride in knowing that they live in the best place in the world for waves.” Ryan is, of course, talking about Hawaii. And he ain’t wrong. Coco has come from the right heritage – Uncle Derek (world champ in 93), pops Michael (Pipe Master in ’82), and bro Mason (flips on Mayhems) – and it shows in her surfing. Kid recently won the Oakley World Pro Junior in Bali and has been dominant on the ASP women’s world tour for three years now. And she’s 20! This day, Ryan was up and at em early, as it was to be “the last run of waves for a few days,” he says. The timing of his arrival in Hawaii wasn’t too great overall, actually: “I just pulled into the rock late last night,” he says. “Long delays put me in well after dark. The amazing part about coming in late was I beat all of the traffic heading to the North Shore. The rough part was, that McDonald’s was the only option for dinner. Fuck that food is good, and cheap, too. If I were naive and poor I would eat there for every meal.” Stay tuned for more from Hawaii, coming soon.
