This is Clifton James Hobgood, otherwise known as CJ, world champion and long time world tour guru, hucking a well-placed slob over an unremarkable wave in an unusual spot – the middle of Off The Wall and Insanities, on Oahu’s North Shore. “Guys are claiming the weirdest banks they’ve seen in a long, long time,” says photographer Ryan Miller, who captured this moment. “Sand shifting in a weird manner, as evidenced by Freddy P’s place.”
CJ was as puzzled as anyone to be finding himself above this section: “Normally that’s just dry rock,” he says. “But with this big north swell, there’s been a lot of sand pushed in there.”
