Stabcast: Why The “Best Female Air Ever” Almost Never Happened
Navigating parental concern (including Papa Kerrzy’s) to make history at Lakey Peak.
Have you seen the headlines? It appears parents are stressed.
PTA (Parent Teacher Association) meetings are now battlegrounds over whether or not to teach Sex Ed, Critical Race Theory, and… math.
We had a relatable predicament at the latest Vans Stab High Presented by Monster Energy, albeit much friendlier. With our Ladybirds being very young, we invite parents to the event each year. This year, with the Final Round of competition looming — composed of Bella Kenworthy, Caity Simmers, Quincy Symonds, and Sierra Kerr — there was debate over what kind of conditions were right for the fledgling female flyers.
And the concern was not unwarranted. The waves were not cute. Take Caity’s wave at 12:58, for example. The Ladybirds had never been tasked with taking flight in waves like that before. This week’s pod dives deeper into how the loving Ladybird parents, while meaning well, almost changed the course of finals day.
That’s just one piece of lunchmeat on this week’s well-adorned charcuterie board.
The pod also goes behind the scenes on JJF’s new edit, “Gravity”, which is playing on Stab Premium now. Mikey and Buck also go in-depth on the most chaotic month of surf capitalism since COVID, Albee Layer’s philosophy-heavy new SEOTY edit, and why Nazaré might be surfing’s Bitcoin.
Feast your ears by checking out The Drop wherever you get your podcasts (Apple, Spotify, Soundcloud).
