The Surf Ban At Nazare Has Been Lifted
The worlds biggest wave is open again, sort of.
The captain of Porto, Zeferino Henriques, has officially lifted the ban on surfing at Nazare. Surfing is allowed again at the massive break, but only from sunrise to 1PM. For all the guys rolling out of bed around noon, eager to smoke a bowl and tow into the tallest wave in the world, we’re deeply sorry. The new restrictions in place still ban surfing all day on the weekends. Guess all the 9-5 guys who charge big waves as a side hustle are out of luck.
According to SIC Notícias:
Don’t freak out yet, we translated it for you. Our Portuguese isn’t too fresh either.
Translation:
Surfing in Nazaré was again allowed this Monday, but only on weekdays and until 1 pm, determines an order from the Captain of Porto da Nazaré that revokes the ban that was in force since the beginning of November.
The order of the captain of Porto, Zeferino Henriques, states that, as determined by the health delegate of the Health Center Group (ACES) Oeste Norte, the practice of ‘free surf’ and ‘tow-in surfing’ is now permitted ( where a surfer is towed to the wave by a jet ski) at Praia do Norte, “only on weekdays, in the period between sunrise and 1 pm”.
Towing into 100ft waves sounds like torture for most of us, but the best big wave psychopaths are already waxing their boards for the next swell.
