Surfin’ Bitcoin Conference Set To Wreak Havoc In Chic French Surf Town
Romance!
On August 26 – 27, The Surfin’ Bitcoin festival will occur an Android’s throw away from one of the most iconic surfing beaches in France: Biarritz’s Grande Plage.
It will be held at the beachfront Casino Barriere de Biarritz — or Biarritz Municipal Casino — which was built in 1929, and where your author was once physically removed because apparently you’re not allowed to yell at blackjack dealers there.
The sandbar out front of the casino, I can report, is quite fun at the moment. Rights, lefts, ramps, and the rare chance at a tube. In the 1980s, the wave was home to the Biarritz Surf Gang — a group of entertaining punks who got into fights, broke rules, did drugs, and repeatedly got kicked out of contests. Their story was captured in a very entertaining film.
Tickets to Surfin’ Bitcoin will cost 300€ (also payable in Bitcoin) and the event is expected to draw over 1000 people. Speakers will include a “High Official” who has laser beams for eyes.

Low tide will be around 3PM on the 26th and 27th and waves are consistently fun this time of year. The lineup will presumably be a clusterfuck.
