Gatien Delahaye has an exquisite backhand.

From the Caribbean island of Guadeloupe, the 24-year-old has developed an approach that is both explosive but considerably controlled. He’s strong off the bottom, his timing is near perfect, and his relaxed posture sets him up for dapper top turns.

That is, of course, if Delahaye even touches the bottom half of the wave. There’s always the possibility he’ll gun it for the end section to take flight. His arsenal of high-flying maneuvers includes everything from formed-out air reverses to intricate shuvits and grabs.
