Rio De Janeiro To Host 2023 ISA World Junior Games

The 2023 ISA World Junior Surfing Championship (WJSC) will take place in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, from November 24 to December 3, 2023. This will be the 19th edition of the championship and the second time it will be hosted by Brazil, with the previous event held in Maresias in 2006.
33 out of the 40 surfers who participated in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics had previously taken part in the WJSC, with 16 of them winning ISA World Junior medals.
The list of past ISA World Junior Champions includes notable names such as Gabriel Medina, Filipe Toledo and Tatiana Weston-Webb from Brazil, Stephanie Gilmore from Australia, Jordy Smith from South Africa and Brisa Hennessy from Costa Rica.
Last time it ran in El Salvador, Luke Swanson, Eweleiula Wong, Willis Droomer and Erin Brooks (before she was booted from team Canada) stood atop the podium.
ISA President Fernando Aguerre expressed his excitement about returning to the ‘incredible beauty and energy’ of Brazil’s beaches. Aguerre also commended CBSurf’s progress under the leadership of President Flavio ‘Teco’ Padaratz.
Governor Claudio Castro of the State of Rio de Janeiro affirmed the full support of the government for CBSurf in hosting the ISA World Junior Surfing Championships. He expressed confidence in CBSurf’s ability to be an excellent partner for the ISA and emphasized that Rio de Janeiro is a city renowned for hosting major sporting events.
