Missing Surfboard Found Four Years And 1700 Miles Later
A barnacle-covered rescue mission.
In 2017, surfer Danny Griffiths took a heavy spill down a giant wave off Tasmania. While Griffiths surfaced safe and sound, his surfboard was gone. Somehow Danny’s green tow board had disappeared, never to be seen again.
That is, however, up until a few days ago when two fishermen off the coast of Queensland reeled it in. The board was covered in seaweed and barnacles but had no severe damage. Experts are unsure how the board made this 1700 mile journey, as it traveled North against the East Australian current.
Hanging a surfboard on a wall is usually a heinous act, but we feel inclined to give Danny a hall pass. Break out the hardware and get that thing in the living room, where you can keep an eye on it.
