Not A Breath Of Onshore Wind In Sight
Miguel Blanco pushes ocean-friendly equipment to its absolute limits.
Almost all surfers preach sustainability.
It’s an easy thing to do — suggest that we should be doing better for our planet. Some of us might even recycle or grab a few pieces of trash off the beach after a surf. But at the end of the day, the majority of us spend our free time riding disposable plastic toys while wearing disposable rubber suits.
Very few professional surfers are actively searching for sustainable solutions to our industry’s consumption problem — Dave Rastovich, Ace Buchan, and Cliff Kapono are a few that come to mind. And Portugal’s Miguel Blanco can now also be added to the list.
Miguel is an ambassador for Save The Waves, Hopezones Foundation, and ALP, which are all organizations focused on environmental stewardship. He also strictly rides surfboards made from Polyola Blanks — 100 % recyclable PU Surfboard Blanks. And, each winter, he drives those sustainable steeds through some of Portugal’s biggest barrels.
“A few years ago I realized that surfing gave me so much. Without the ocean, I could never live the way I do today. I love being in the water. That’s why I take action and encourage people to experience the ocean and care about our planet,” says Miguel “I’m also searching for the most sustainable & best performing solutions for my surfing, so I’ve been riding these boards.”
