Need an Excuse to Book a Surf Trip? Watch this.
Some encouragement from Gatien Delahaye.
The video you’re about to watch is probably best paired with a glass of red wine and some escargot (or just a VB, if snails aren’t your thing.)
Filmed by Yentl Touboul, edit by Simon Levalois-Bazer, and with motion design by Bastian Bretecher, this tasteful clip features yet another Frenchman with a name we can only kinda pronounce, doing surfing we can only aspire to. Rather than hailing from the French mainland, however, Gatien Delahaye learned to surf in the Perrier-green waters of the Caribbean. Guadeloupe, specifically.
You may not have heard of Gatien Delahaye unless you’re dialed into the underground Caribbean scene or mid-level QS events, but the guy is fuckin’ tech. For those who are virgin-viewers of the 25-year-old’s clinical style, this clip is a good appetizer.
Gatien dances with a few shallow emerald setups in Bocas del Toro, making them look a lot less difficult than they notoriously are (note the sand-bottomed steps at 0:45.) As much as we’d want to backdoor the featured left slab, we’d probably shoulder hop our way to glory. And safety.
Featuring only one non-tube clip, and no more than 3 seconds of B-roll (sorry Mr. Neville), this edit is probably the quickest way to convince your buddy to finally book that ticket to Bocas with you.
