They say iron sharpens iron. So when you see the youngest Florence brother taking off behind the boil at Pipe or doing a frontside invert in the deep-end at Banzai skatepark, it isn’t difficult to imagine why. But there’s been something different with Ivan Florence this year, as he’s been showing up as an undeniable force in the water and on concrete, and doing it all with effortless style.

In this section from The Pick-Up, that Stab and Vans joint keeping you current on all things Vans Triple Crown of Surfing, we’ll join Pua DeSoto as she brings the Vans Girls to her homebreak of Makaha to shoot with descendent of surf royalty, Ha’a Keaulana. Then we’ll reintroduce you to Ivan Florence and learn what it’s been like coming of age on the North Shore as part of the Florence clan, from catching that massive outer reef wave in his early teens to finding his own path as a surfer-skater.

This is a section from The Pick-Up, a Vans and Stab weekly news show keeping you current on the Vans Triple Crown of Surfing and other happenings around the North Shore. Watch all of Episode 5 here.
