Is This Surf Photography’s First NFT?
Tanner Carney Wants Your Crypto.
NFT. Non-Fungible Token.
An NFT is a unit of data stored on a digital ledger, called a blockchain, that certifies a digital asset to be unique and therefore not interchangeable. NFT’s can be used to represent items such as photos, videos, audio, gifs, and other types of digital files and give the buyer digital ownership rights.
Tanner Carney is a 24-year-old Southern Californian director, producer, and photographer who has just listed his NFT photo collection on the OpenSea platform, where people can buy his assets in Ethereum cryptocurrency. His works feature top-tier WSL professionals behind the scenes, giraffes, ice creams, and rice paddies.
The value of tokenized cryptoart is found in the exclusivity of ownership. While buyers may not hold the copyright of the cryptoart they purchase, they do receive the guarantee of authenticity that comes with owning it. So, collectors rely on the value of rarity or popularity of an artist when investing into such a speculative market.
