Often Toby wears the hat of a full-time employee for Vissla, at others times, that of a bass guitarist. But sometimes he wears no hat at all, and just stands tall in really big tubes where he looks... comfortable.

Last Saturday at Burleigh Brewing Co. saw the premiere of the ‘ACSOD’ team edit.

Was loose.

Needless to say, felt like an old wet sock come Sunday, but a hung scroll through IG revealed Ned Brockmann’s sun-blasted mug, who just finished running 3940 kms across Australia from Cottesloe to Bondi after 47 consecutive days of left foot, right foot with maggots eating his toes, tendonitis, delirium etc… the bluesky perspective I needed, even managed getting a couple of words up on site.

Speaking of remarkable feats, the ACSOD clip has been a huge lift for the Crews brothers. Thomas, who filmed and edited it, Alex, who made the surfboards and provided artistic direction, and Mitch who produced and provides much of the entertainment on screen, have spent the better part of two years piecing this thing together.

Creating a 37-minute surf film is no joke, and these guys have done it largely on their own dime, whilst holding down other jobs, and the result is a high-quality, relatable surf clip free from any corporate stink.

There is something to be said about the curse of being too hot/privileged that means you never develop a sense of character or pursue other interests. All these guys wear several different hats day-to-day, and it’s apparent when you meet them that they are like… real people.

I’m not saying they’re not hot btw, they are total babes, just with character too!

Shortly before the Prem, Toby took to the stage with his band Takaicardia, and absolutely tore it to pieces. Silverchair 2.0 – I kid not. More on Toby later in the week, who has to be one of the most underrated freesurfers in Oz right now. Less full-time work at the VISSLA factory and more time chasing psycho tubes like the ones in this clip, please. Toby goes to Portugal today so maybe NVR can blowup some more mysto spots for YT content to point him in the right direction.

Think a young *Christopher Andrew Joannou*, but way more comfortable in 12ft slabs.

Yes, a 37-minutes video is long for your average dopamine-short-circuited brain in 2022, but you know what, stretching (limbs or attention spans) is good for you and this is great end to end. Plus, Mick Fanning stretches – Rule for life: If MF does something, do the exact same.
