The 39-yo male was surfing in Point Plomer.
The 39-year-old man was surfing at Point Plomer near Crescent Head on Tuesday morning when a shark bit through his surfboard.
The ABC reports the surfer was taken to Kempsey District Hospital with minor cuts and grazes to one of his legs.
Surf Life Saving NSW chief executive Steve Pearce told the ABC the man was lucky to be alive and is now recovering in hospital.
Shark surveillance drones were operating in the area at the time of the attack.
All beaches have been closed from Queens Head to Big Hill.
More to come.
