Britt Merrick Breaks Down The SITD-Inspired CI Happy Everyday
The well-rounded kid in the Happy Family.
Surfboards are complicated.
“I wanted to simplify the choice you need to make in building a quiver by creating a cohesive family of boards that have a familiar feel across the range. That’s the idea with the Happy family,” says CI Head Shaper, Britt Merrick.
“The Happy Everyday came from a request from Stab for Taj Burrow’s SITD. They wanted a small wave performance board and I really wanted to make something fresh. I reached out to Dane (Reynolds) and we worked on it together. We probably made nine iterations and Dane didn’t like any of them,” laughs Britt. Long story short, Britt put the finishing touches on them personally and the board ended up finishing runner-up in Taj’s SITD.
The CI Happy Everyday is an everyday shortboard. There’s more area in the nose and a wider tail block than your average hi-fi shorty. The rails are shortened to create a curvier outline, especially through the tail area, and both the entry and exit rockers have been lowered to increase paddle and planing speeds to cover a broader range of conditions. The single concave under the front foot acts as a gas pedal and a generous double concave through the fins provides rail-to-rail ease and plenty of lift in the small stuff.
The Happy Everyday is the sweet spot between your high performance shortboard (Two Happy) and a step down/groveler (Rocket Wide). It’s ridden most often as a thruster but can be ordered as a five-fin— though some people like it as a quad.
We’re big fans of Britt: a multiple 2x SITD winner, a lovely human being and passionate and dedicated master of his craft. Check out the Happy Everyday here.
