For five days Nunya Business was de facto champ of the Da Hui Backdoor Shootout after the awards ceremony was postponed.

Now we finally have a legitimate winner, Benji Brand from Team Snapt 5.

The South African born, Hawaii-raised tube sultan was given his $50K novelty cheque after banking the highest scores on the leaderboard in what Nathan Florence was calling “as good as it gets 10 ft Pipe”. In second place was the current leader of the Pipe Rankings in the VTCS, Ivan Florence, who finished runner-up.

Benji, a man of few words, finished 10th in the Stab Surfer of the Year Poll in 2021 (tied with Craig Ando) courtesy of his incredible opening part in Snapt 4. Mr Brand got the most memorable wave of the Shootout IMO, a massive double-section Pipe pit that he exited via layback (judges clearly gave him the nod on the completion).

Go goofs!

With only two days remaining in the VTCS window, the overall rankings currently look like this. Time to get those Sunset/Hale’iwa clips in Florences.

Note: If the Eddie runs tomorrow I don’t know about the odds of banking Haleiwa clips.
