Balaram Stack’s New Movie ‘Hail Mary’ Is Showing In SF This Week
Here’s how you can watch it.
“Congratulations on your life” reads Taylor Paul’s comment, adorning a video of Balaram Stack arcing through a Fijian wormhole.
A Pipe Masters trophy, a North Shore legacy, a loving mother, the ability to weave through perilously enormous funnels of water, and a movie about the whole thing.
‘Hail Mary’ — the film in question — has been premiered through select theaters and surf shops in the past months.
It will be available digitally on July 11th — but you can go watch it in person at 6pm this Thursday, May 11th at The Balboa in San Francisco. Tickets are available here, and all proceeds go to City Surf Project.

“Childhood photos and home videos illustrate the beautiful relationship of Balaram and his mother, Mary, who was an invaluable force in helping Balaram go from a small-town surfer on New York’s Long Island to the champion he is today.
Mary’s commitment to her son and his passion for the water is endless — her ability to stand by him without pressuring him to choose a different path is nothing short of inspiring. Woven throughout the heritage surf footage and interviews are incredible surf sequences from around the world. Years of footage make up the stunning shots of some Balaram’s best waves at Pipeline, Teahupoo, and returning to New York to surf hurricane swell at his home break.“
