Watch: Harry & Chippa Debate The Status Of Chop Hops
“Choppies are creative middle ground tricks” or “they’re lower than pond scum”. Let’s discuss.
Today’s topic of debate: Chop Hops.
Representing the affirmative, we have Chippa Wilson.
“Choppies are number one. If you can’t do a big back three choppy on the flats or a good front chop, you’ve got to tap in. It’s middle ground shit that allows you to get way more creative on a wave. I’ve fucken loved them since I was twelve, so have a lot of people.”
Representing the negative, we have Harry Bryant.
“The chop hop is the most un-functional, waste of time maneuver that you could possibly do on a surfboard. It doesn’t fit into any sort of category: level of difficulty or functionality. It’s lower than pond scum basically.”
As someone who has never landed a chop hop, I am slightly offended by both surfers’ claims of how easy they are to execute, but given Harry rejects all respect for them, I am more inclined to agree with him because it makes me feel better about by incapabilities.
However, in a parallel universe where I could land chop hops, I would likely favour Chip’s claim, because “big hog pops” sound fun as hell.
