The Surf100 Mexico Winner Will Be Chosen By You

Earn a couple surfboards for your judging efforts.

Surf100 Mexico premieres live in roughly 24 hours. And, we have a job for you.

At 6 pm PDT on September 2 (or whatever equivalent that is for your region, see below), we need you to sit down on the couch, open your device of choice, and help us decide a winner. If that sounds like a lot of work, don’t worry, we pay (handsomely)! One Surf100 judge will win a Channel Islands and Simon Jones surfboard. More on that below.

Judging will be open to both Stab Premium subscribers and PPV purchasers, and it works like this:

When a surfer takes off on a wave, you’ll see a “score now” button pop up on the screen. This is your reminder to watch the wave with a critical eye. Once the surfer has fallen or kicked out, you’ll see multiple replay angles of the same wave. At any point during the replays, you can scroll below the Surf100 video player and input your score using our slider widget. You’ll have 60 seconds to score each wave. We highly recommend watching the show on a computer or TV and then scoring on your phone to avoid missing any action.

Unlike our most recent audience-scoring event, Stab High Central America, where you judged waves out of 50 points, the scale for Surf100 Mexico will be 1-100. So a 35 is equivalent to 3.5 and so on.

After the 100 minutes is over, the event winner will be decided based on your scores. And, one of you will become a winner as well. To promote fair and even-handed judging, our head critic Michael Ciaramella has gone ahead and mock-scored all the waves prior to the event. The judge whose scores are closest to his throughout the 100 minutes (meaning the average proximity across all 49 waves surfed) will win a Channel Islands and Simon Jones surfboard.

Watch (and judge) the live show here, Sept 2 at 6 pm California time.
