After watching Kanoa Igarashi surf, one might consider him to be a weapon.  This would be an accurate assumption, given his bloodline of legitimate Samurai. His great grandfather was one of Shinsengumi Commander Isami Kondo’s most trusted disciples and swordmasters. 

Aside from his ancestral heritage, Kanoa also tells us about his Japanese American upbringing and his family’s struggles after coming to America.
