Sometimes Low: The Stab High B-Sides
30 minutes of surfing that was too good to die on the cutting-room floor.
Ever notice how certain meals taste better the next day? Take pizza, for example—nothing quite like a searing hot slice fresh out of the box. So tempting, you don’t even contemplate the imminent third-degree burns on the roof of your mouth.
One could argue, however, that very same pizza hasn’t reached its full potential.
Pull a leftover slice out of the fridge. Set the oven to 400 degrees and toss it in. Don’t take it out as soon as it’s warmed up; let the pizza marinate a little longer. Let the crust reach that crisp, tooth-breaking level of crunch. Allow the cheese to burn over just the slightest bit until it’s nice and orange. Not bad, huh?
Our beloved video editor Sam Moody took this same theory and applied it to surf clips. Our recent Vans Stab High presented by Monster Energy series was already close to perfect, but Sam decided to add some spice, throw it back in the hot box, and let it cook for a little longer.
When the oven door opened, he presented us with a 30-minute film of extra Stab High footage. Some clips you have already seen, and some you certainly have not.
Theoretically, leftovers aren’t supposed to taste as good as the original meal. Luckily for us, Sam doesn’t give a fuck about theories. Get a piece while it’s warm.
