Solo Session at Big Ulu, Saving Babies, and Chip’s Latest Purchase (a $30k Panhead)
First and Last with surfing’s sweetest savage.
Don’t let the tattoos and motorcycles fool you, Chippa Wilson is a total sweetheart and an excellent host. Don’t believe us? Just ask the momma and baby pademelons that Chip rescued from the road. We caught up with the aerial assassin during the latest installment of First and Last. We hit him with the hard questions and here’s what we learned:
Chippa Wilson’s last solo session was at Sumatra, with 6-foot walls of glass all to himself. Ten barrels back to back, with no one out except Chippa and the water photogs. Think about that next time you’re scrapping for waist-high crumble.
Pumping waves in the Maldives is a good thing. But given Chippa’s tradition of getting skunked on his annual trip, he only brought 2 high-performance boards. Both of which broke on the same day, leaving the poor fella breezing past perfect air sections on twinnies and finless boards.
Surfboards aren’t the only thing Chippa likes to whip around. His most recent big purchases include a custom Harley and a John Deer riding lawnmower. If Chip ever comes to Florida, I’ll have to take him to Grandma’s house in Daytona Beach; he’ll fit right in.
Pop shuvits fueled a competitive career. Chippa Wilson dedicates his former ability to win heats to his signature pop shuvit. We all have a fail-safe maneuver. The only difference is Chippa has upgraded his into a big spin.
