For the most part, New Years Eve is really fucking overrated. Put that much pressure on any stretch of time and it’s guaranteed to underwhelm. In fact, the anticipation is often the best part – or, if you live in Sydney and are familiar with Field Day, then you’re probably all about January 1. Field Day inhabits the domain in the heart of Sydney; an excellent festival setting, really, thanks to lush greenery surrounded by skyscrapers (Centrepoint Tower stands almost directly behind the man stage – the sunset time slot in particular is a visual and visceral dee-lite!).
The fact that everyone at Field Day is oozing liquor and chemicals from the night before kinda gives it a weird sense of togetherness. The best part about it is that it’s brimming with either hospitality folk who worked the night before, or those who’ve pinned their ears back to usher in the new year with prolonged enthusiasm. And bravo to both schools. A
The lineup just dropped for 2016 and it’s a straight melter. Disclosure bring their new stadium-sized live show to the headline slot, delivering cuts from new album Caracal as well as favs from debut Settle. Other Stab picks include glamorous aviators Flight Facilities, the portly techno god Seth Troxler, Ta-Ku’s sensual silk, and the undoubtedly sunburnt but hypnotic Brit Daniel Avery.
