Gallery: Coffs Harbour Was All Spirit Hands And Aussie Bands

It’s been two weeks since Alex Lahey and The Belligerents took to the West, now it’s the East Coast’s turn to crank up the dial on Stab x Summer Bright’s Summer Sessions Tour.

In preparation for the weekend’s endeavours we managed to slot in a couple of cheeky grovels on our freshly shaped duo and twin-fin shaped by Neal Purchase Jr. and Navrin Fox, just before the bands set foot on the tarmac.

We kicked off at the Hoey Moey in Coffs Harbour at 4pm, after making the essential Big Banana stop off. Bored Shorts donned the stage first-up to warm the early-bird’s eardrums with their slacker banger ‘Day & Age’ – the band’s only song – as well as a couple unreleased cuts.

Next up we the spirit hand jivers, The Belligerents, flavoured the Hoey Moey with some visual and aural eccentricity. The Belligerents front man may have taken centre stage, but there was one seasoned geezer cutting comparable shapes down at the front row, mingled in with five Sydney-siders who made the half-day sprint to Coffs just to see the 5-piece perform.

At this point, the atmosphere was rising, tinnies compiling and hips rotating. The waterside venue filled to capacity just in time to see Alex Lahey lay her fingers to fret.

Coby Perkovich was mesmerised belting back every vocal, the ambiance turned up a notch and Alex rounded out the evening with a set the Coffs crew won’t be forgetting anytime soon. After it all, Alex made the rounds through the crowd, signing merch, chatting with fans and even snapping selfies with some of our staffers!

This morning we woke up weary eyed to a couple of small ripples at Treachery, but our hopes are high for round two tonight at the Brewery, Byron Bay, where we’ll be doing it all again from 4 o’clock.

If you’re not shy of a couple of beers, free music and questionable dancing, then you know where to find us. And If you’re in town early, you may even find us slipping along The Pass with the 15,000 other late-summer season warriors.

And don’t worry, we haven’t forgotten about our Queensland friends either, we’ll be crossing the border soon enough and will be taking the Cooly Hotel and Sunshine Beach Surf Club by storm next weekend.

Here’s all those Facebook deets you pine for:
