A Bright Day Of Handshapes, Good Tunes And People In Hawaii

Vans Duct Tape Festival continues to be one of our fav events in surf.

It’s peak season on the North Shore. A time where brands activate. When surfers inundate Foodland to Rockies to Pupukea Grill, there’s a party every night, and a different story every day. And, this year, everyone appears pleased: there’s plenty of swell, the weather is sitting at the perfect tropical temperature (pants at night, boardies during the day); the overall vibrations are high and occasionally cosmic. And, we like that.

Yesterday, Vans hosted their annual Duct Tape in a drop-dead little corner called Pu’aena Point next to Haleiwa. Unlike the past Duct Tapes we’ve covered, there was no surf contest. Just a beach day, one the San Clemente yeti with a glorious mustache, Dane Gudang, referred to as “the perfect pool party.” A beautiful lady spun vinyl above the sand. There were hotdogs and açaí bowls, beers and spiked seltzer (if you knew where to look), handshapes, inflatable swans, party waves, and at some point Dylan Graves came laughing into shore with a paddle in hand.

Joel Tudor’s Duct Tape is a staple in the surf community. It’s a family-friendly affair that we enjoy attending whenever possible. For this Duct Tape, Harry Bryant, Hanna Scott, Wolle Nyvelt, and Hawaiian surfer Imaiakalani Devault provided the crafts.

Tap the right arrow above for a tidy gallery featuring plenty of recognizable faces – from Mikey Feb, Harry Bryant, Joel and Tosh Tudor, Karina and Tanner Rozunko, Tomas Hermes, Dylan Graves, Dane Gudang, Curren Caples and more!
