Waimea’s A Curvy Gal With A Whole Lotta Moxy
She ain’t exactly pretty, Ain’t exactly small.
They say the Bay calls the day, but she’s never known that. And unbeknownst to her Quik and the Aikau’s name have been removed from her name. She’s never known much, but only felt the men and women who throw their boards into her ring, hold on tight and in return she’ll give ’em the ride of their life, a proper flogging or both. But that’s what some get off on, the both. And this Monday, the Bay did her thing; between massive sets on the head, rail grabs down the face, the occasional make and more common lashing, you can bet the masochistic folk riding her got off.
“It was a great week of swell and it filled in perfectly for Waimea Bay,” says lensman Dylan Hadley. “The wind was just right and the wipeouts, vertical drop-ins ensued. I had the chance to witness all of this from a helicopter at one point. It was so awesome to see Waimea Bay alive after having a let down earlier in the week after my telephoto lens and doubler was stolen on the North Shore. I got a last minute rental of the same telephoto, ten minutes before the shop closed, the night before this swell hit the island. It made me grateful to have everything set up in time to be able to score this shot of Waimea pumping out beautiful waves.”
