Yes, Mundaka Is Still One Of The World’s Best Waves

Do you remember the classic Billabong film, Trilogy, featuring Andy Irons, Joel Parkinson, and Taj Burrow in the late 2000s?

The Taylor Steele flick was one of the best ever made, not only for its star-studded cast but also the phenomenal waves they surfed. 

Included were setups all around Australia, Hawaii, Tahiti, Morocco, etc., but one of the best parts in Trilogy came from the Basque region of Spain, where Parko and Andy sat their bony white asses in draining Mundaka kegs.

On December 15, 2018, Mundaka did its best rendition of this Parko/Andy day, which took place more than a decade ago. All the best locals were out, from Artiz Aranburu to Keep Acero and Natxo Gonzales, and eight second tubes came with your ticket in the door. 

When this place turns on, there are few waves in the world that can match its sheer lefthand perfection. What a wave.
