Watch: Son Of An East Coast Power Don Sips The Hawaiian Breeze
Kepa Mendia has a preternatural knack for the tube.
Some surfers have it, others don’t.
We’re talking about one’s natural affinity for sniffing out tubes on any and every occasion.
This skill stems from an early barrel addiction and grows with years of practice. It’s a bug that’s infected many of your favorite Tour surfers, from Kelly Slater to Jeremy Flores and John John Florence, and it seems to have gotten ahold of 12-year-old Florida grom and son of another east coast legend, Kepa (father: Pete) Mendia.
Watch above as Kepa hunts hollow teepees across a range of Hawaiian lineups, dipping his rail deep into the face as he knifes into hungry, windblown caves.
