Better Everyday: May Help Your Surfing, But No Promises On Your Self Worth

Britt Merrick, Parker Coffin, and Barron Mamiya discuss the new board model from CI.

You’ve got a fetish. Blatant, undeniable. Might be worth unpacking — therapist, friend, or, failing that, an AI chatbot that can play both roles while also generating a hyper-realistic painting of Hannibal Barca pleasuring one of his elephants. Go on, hang it above your bed. Just don’t get confused. Your therapist isn’t actually conscious. Probably.

Anyway, back to your fetish.

You’ve got a CI problem. The data doesn’t lie. Every time we ask, you throw your vote at Channel Islands — shaped by the broody, bearded Brit Merrick — like a moth to a very well-marketed flame. And when we pressed you on the best board you’ve ridden in the past 24 months? CI. You’re obsessed.

And so is Imai.

While mildly concerning — and normally something we’d avoid acknowledging to prevent further indulgence — your drug of choice has just dropped a new strain. Stronger, more addictive, and fully capable of ruining your marriage.

Channel Islands unveiled a new shape this week — an evolution of the ‘Happy Everyday,’ which is the board that came to life after finishing second in Taj Burrow’s Stab In The Dark, and has now become one of their best sellers.

But Britt had a few tweaks in mind. So he got to work — softened the hip, threw in a swallow tail, and cranked up the tail rocker. Five holes for your fins, too, so you can customise your setup based on how frisky you’re feeling that morning.

An objectively enjoyable-looking shape.

All three guys in the video above — Britt, Barron Mamiya, and Parker Coffin (a man who has launched two of CI’s best selling models — the FishBeard and the CI Pro) — swear by it as a quad, and maybe there’s something to that. Remember Bobby Martinez’s Zipper session? Quad. Even Stab’s own Sam McIntosh chimed in on our podcast, calling it his favourite board. Make of that what you will.

A new model calls for a new name. And since they’re convinced it’s better than the original, they’ve gone with the aptly titled ‘Better Everyday.’ So much positivity. But with their ‘Big Happy,’ ‘Two Happy,’ and ‘Happy Traveller’ models in the mix, one can’t help but wonder if they’ve struck a secret deal with McDonald’s for burger-themed inspiration.

Regardless, in your words, the boards work. Shop here.
