Watch: An Award-Winning Afro-Italian Surfing Short

The protagonist in this clip calls himself Robert D’amico, but we believe a more fitting name for the Italian lead-foot would be Willian Cardosini. 

In this 13-minute film, Cardosini ventures from his homeland to chase a swell somewhere off the coast of Africa, where fun waves and gorgeously-tanned locals reside. He surfs these waves with the force and dexterity of a horny rhinoceros, before buckling his ankle on a mistimed tube exit. 

It’s then that we get to witness the best surfing of the film, from two afro-laden local boys with impeccable style. Sadly it’s just a few clips. 

Spliced between the surfing are shots of local fanfare and cuisine, which due to how masterfully they were compiled, carried this C+ surfing clip all the way up to a Vimeo Staff Pick.
