There’s something to be said for refining equipment with roots in design theories from a half-century ago.

And yet in the world of foam and fiberglass, there’s always a cobbler somewhere obsessing over their tail’s hard resin-edge, foiling layers of volan cloth until their fin positively twangs at a thumb’s firm plucking.

One such figure is Orange County’s Tyler Warren, board builder and stylish all-board enthusiast, with a penchant for tweaking heritage concepts to fit his post-modern approach. The clip above finds Tyler dialing in a new fin he’s been working on with the crew at Goleta’s True Ames Fins, one of California’s finest legacy finmakers.

We’ll let them take it away from here.

After shaping his first board at 14, and having his first art show at 18 years old… Tyler’s passion for design has only increased and become a larger part of his life. A successful surfer, oil painter and surfboard shaper… Tyler has a keen eye for drawing lines and creating curves which makes him a pleasure to work with.

In addition to his intuitive knack for designing surfcraft, Tyler’s natural wave riding ability makes him the perfect candidate to not only create new products, but also to really put them through the paces.

We are excited to introduce the new Tyler Warren Flux Fin series, which has been thoroughly tested and then thoughtfully refined until we finally achieved that perfect balance we were searching for. These two unique templates are guaranteed to provide a lively spark to your larger boards.

These fins feature a full forward-tapering foil, an extended amount of rake and a narrow sensitive tip which is built to provide both stability and smooth fluidity through turns. If you’re searching for extra projection off the bottom and an added energetic feeling for the larger boards in your quiver, then look no further.

– Ride the 10.0″ in your glider, pintail logs, square tail logs or wide tailed mid-lengths.
– The 9.25″ works great in smaller longboards and eggy type surfcraft.
