Taj Burrow Meets His Protégé
Dakoda Walters heads to West Aus alongside the surfer who influenced him most.
A few weeks back, Dakoda Walters released an edit which surpassed the air-reverse overabundance which exists in the edits of today’s youngsters.
It featured four boards all varying one foot in length. The middle spectrum of those lengths – 5’0″ and 6’0″ – aren’t exactly ‘novel’ for a 17-year old, but the way his skillset spreads to a 4-foot boogie and 7’0″ pintail made better argument for his depth of ability than any combination or surf-related adjectives ever will.
Like every Australian natural footer, Dakoda was, and still is, enamoured by the surfing of Taj Burrow.
“I can tell he just loves doing airs, & getting his board above the lip. That’s all I cared about as well,” Taj said about the 17-year old.
Dakoda’s aerial ability for someone not old enough to drive a car solo is exceptional, and his rail surfing isn’t half bad either. His capabilities in overhead barrels might not quite be there yet, particularly in contrast to Taj, but the more time he spends surfing the country’s west, the more competent he’ll become.
