Parko’s Last Hawaiian Lap Begins
Joel shares his favourite Hawaiian memories while the Hawaiian’s who respect Parko most share theirs.
Joel Parkinson announced that his retirement back at J-Bay in July. Now, we’re less than a fortnight away from witnessing Parko wriggle into a jersey for the last time – assuming he doesn’t get called in for a wildcard.
Parko’s seamless, full-railed surfing is synonymous with the waves along the North Shore. And after grazing over the highlights from his most fearsome years, it’s a surprise he hasn’t been even more dominant. Nevertheless, Joel’s surfing along the seven-mile miracle has inspired generations and will continue to thanks to the internet.
This third episode in Billabong’s series, Parko’s Last Lap, features archival footage of Joel effortlessly walloping North Shore walls, recounting his favourite Hawaiian memories, and features Hawaiian’s recounting their own favourite memories of Joel.
Joel won’t be celebrating a World Title at Ehukai ever again, but maybe he’ll get chaired up the beach one more time as a Pipe Master. What a send off that would be.
