The New Nathan Fletcher Doc Is Going To Be HEAVY
A portrait of the rawest as a young man, from the director of the infamous “Sea Of Darkness”!
Over the last few years, while simultaneously trying to get the backstory and bird-dogging Black Market copies of Michael Oblowitz and Martin Daly’s most legendary and never-released Sea of Darkness, which documents the culture of drug smuggling and surfing, and their radical lives lived by some of the surf industry’s founding fathers in their formative years, we kept hearing about this fucking Nathan Fletcher documentary, and rumors of Obloqitz’s involvement
After a few very casual cocktails and run-ins at Malibu with the South African director, we gleaned that the film—called Heavy Water— was in fact real, and that it was, well, heavy.
While we know there’s plenty of raw material in Nathan’s most cinematic life, we know there’s untold stories of his time with Andy Irons in Indo in 1999, when the young Kauaian would have surely died had it not been for Nathan’s stoicism and steely nerves. We also know there’s massive tow sessions on North Shore Outer Reefs, and fucking helicopter bomb drops.
Hit the trailer above, and look forward to this one.
