Koa Rothman’s Jaws Headhunter, And One Final Pipe Experience Cheers

A few days into the Backdoor Shoutout and the Weedmaps Pipe Experience, a purple blob set on the Hawaiian Island chain – the biggest swell of the year. The North Shore was maxed out, beach access cordoned off by yellow caution tape and lifeguard trucks.

Nathan Fletcher opted for Oahu’s outer reefs. The skate team drove into Honolulu to look for spots. Bruce Irons, Tyler Newton and Seth Moniz (the WM Shootout team along with Nathan) rested up.

Koa Rothman grabbed some extra foam made the inter-island leap, to Maui.

“I had a shocker at Jaws,” Koa told Stab afterwards. “The first day we got there it was bombing, choppy, windy and fucked up. It was questionable that evening, but we went out anyway. I got a good one, so it was worth it. Then the next day was the day everyone came for. We got kind of skunked. I got one solid one, and the whole thing exploded on my back. It was gnarly. I thought I was going to die, but I didn’t” he laughed.

“It just headhunted me down, I didn’t outrun shit!”
